In reflection of ITEC 7460 course and content, I am definitely feeling more confident about my abilities to coach colleagues in the use of technology for instruction and assessment, in supporting student engagement and teacher collaboration. I feel that I understand the dynamics of my school much better after having completed Current Reality and GAPSS, as it gave me a starting point to consider our current professional development and student/staff needs. The Individual Teacher Technology Assessment encouraged me in analyzing a colleague’s thoughts and needs concerning her personal use and understanding of technology in the classroom, and I feel each of these assignments built upon the previous, although I didn’t always recognize that right away. The Coaching Journal assignment gave me a chance to implement what I learned through the ITTA, and the One Hour Technology Workshop brought all of the course information together. I also believe I am more knowledgeable about the components of the workshop, such as use of Weebly, PowerPoint, video, research, and creating content. Knight’s Instructional Coaching book was instrumental in introducing concepts behind the partnership approach, which I referred to throughout the duration of the course.
Moving forward, I feel that I can use the partnership approach to support colleagues in technology, even in an informal setting. I am continuing my coaching sessions with my participant from the Coaching Journal, and hope to branch out in partnering with other art teachers as well. I plan to continue working the aspects of the Change Game, such as finding out who eats lunch together or who works together with an after-school club, as well as discovering who is already using specific technology and how I can support those colleagues, so that in turn we can help others understand how technology can benefit their teaching. As part of the STEM/STEAM HYPE team, I have an opportunity to get to know people through implementation of the STEAM process, which also includes technology. I am opening my eyes to the possibilities around me, especially outside of the art classroom. Although this was previously outside of my comfort zone, I am now excited to embrace new technology not only for myself, but to support all students and colleagues in working towards school and county initiatives.
