Reflection
The Weebly Blog artifact was created individually as a series of reflections upon various classes within the Instructional Technology Specialist program. The reflections describe the learning that took place during each ITEC class, as well as how that learning can be applied in the art classroom. Many of the reflections describe use of digital resources and technology tools for instruction, assessment, and student engagement, and reflect upon use of data to inform technology choices that support school improvement, student engagement, and academic achievement.
This artifact demonstrates my ability to regularly evaluate and reflect on my professional practice and dispositions through development of blog postings that analyze my learning from multiple ITEC classes over the course of a year and a half. In evaluating my learning, I determined how use of technology including various tools and resources could impact my professional practice of teaching elementary art, specifically through instruction and assessment. Meeting the needs of 21st century learners required regular reflection of teaching practices, and in doing so, I gained confidence in how to support my students through collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity (4Cs). In reflecting upon my dispositions concerning art, technology, student achievement, and student engagement, I now understand my role as a facilitator of knowledge, and how technology can enable student choice and student voice within the digital classroom.
From completing this artifact, I learned how to reflect upon specific learning experiences as each uses technology to positively impact student learning. I also learned how to use reflection to improve upon what I learned and what I can put into place to continue the positive impact. Furthermore, I learned how reflection is an important aspect of expanding upon goals and revisiting what one has learned. To improve the process of creating this artifact, I would create a digital journal in OneNote specifically for reflections upon use of technology in the art room.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacts school improvement, faculty development, and student learning in that reflecting upon my personal technology use strengthens my ability to model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences for faculty, which in turn impacts school development and student learning. As I continue to reflect upon my use of technology in the art classroom and develop ways to improve, I will expand my impact upon student engagement and achievement. This impact can be assessed by implementing teacher workshops based upon what I’ve learned and administering surveys for teachers and students to assess the impact upon their teaching and learning.
