In this course, I learned to use our school's Strategic Technology Plan to create a Shared Vision. Without the requirements from this course, I might not have been aware that we had a plan for technology, although we are currently going through Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) certification, and most teachers use technology on a daily basis. By creating a Shared Vision based upon our technology plan and School Improvment Plan (SIP), I've realized how all of the components fit together to support teachers and students alike.
The SWOT Analysis not only provided insight into how businesses address strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, but to how school environments can do the same. I never thought of many aspects within the curriculum and community in regards to those terms, but it makes sense when you think about how we teach and how students learn. This leads into taking action. The Action/Evaluation Plan, It truly made me think about how the actions we put into place could benefit student achievement, and how the ISTE Standards play a part -between teacher, student, and coach.
Staying current in technology trends, as well as making the School Improvement Plan, Strategic Technology Plan, and ISTE Standards known to all teachers and staff in our school is a primary goal. Just today, I had a conversation with a mom who is an engineer at Lockheed Martin about bringing her student engineers to work with students and equipment as part of THEIR learning process. The knowledge gained in this course about how to support ELL, SWD, and gender is already coming into fruition, and because of my work here, I'm able to have honest, meaningful conversations with parents who want to support these initiatives as well. In the future, I will use what I've learned about grants to provide opportunities for my students to have access to devices and internet, with a goal of supporting school and county initiatives. I'm excited to continue learning how technology can help our students, teachers, staff, and administration grow and excel.
